Character Interview - Hellion & Fire

Good morning to you both. Let's start with how you greet the morning in your home.

Fire: Well, I'm an early riser. I'll usually make my way to the lake for a wake-up swim and then it's back home to make breakfast for the king of the jungle here.
Hellion: Well, there's a new title. I tend to be an early riser too...my favorite past time is watching Fire take her morning walks. We've been together for ages and it never gets old.

You certainly do seem in to be in love. How do you keep that alive in your marriage?

Hellion: It has everything to do with Fire. She is my soulmate and has been since I first laid eyes on her.

I can see you blush Fire, despite the fur. Is Hellion your soulmate as well? Was it love at first sight for you too?

Fire: Oh my goodness no. Hellion found me while I was still quite young for one thing, and he was mated to someone else for another thing. It took a couple of years for him to grow on me. frankly, I thought he was a bit full of himself back then. It took a friend to point out that what I was actually feeling was love.

Do your responsibilities as Clan Leaders ever conflict with your responsibilities to each other and your family?

Fire: Not too much. Our family shares in clan duties and events. We raised our children to be good clan members, so there's very little conflict.
Hellion: In the beginning, I had lots of conflict. I was constantly afraid that Fire would get hurt until she proved herself as a strong and capable warrior. Then when the children were in danger, that was a conflict. I wondered if I was not leader of the clans, if they would have been in that position.
Of course, Fire pointed out that it was not our positions within the clans that put them in danger. Still, even though they're grown now, I can't help but worry about them.

The final part of your story has not been written yet. Can you give us any in sites into that story?
Hellion: Absolutely not! The man that writes our story would kill me off for even hinting at it. All I can say is that it will be a spectacular tale.

I see. I also agree with you...when I asked him that same question, he threatened to write me into a book just to kill me off as gruesomely as possible. Speaking of gruesome, Fire had to prove herself in combat against Sage. Did she put up the fight you expected?

Fire: Sage is a pushover if she kept a fight along the physical lines. I was whipping her ass...can I say that here?...kicking her butt until she reverted back to using magic.
Hellion: I was quite impressed with Fire that day. Her skills in the ways of the warrior are impressive to say the least. I would match her up against anybody.

In your battle against the Repticans, you proved that you are an adept strategist as well Fire.

Fire: Thank you for the compliment. To tell the truth, I didn't know I had it in me. It must have been something I picked up from looking over my husband's shoulders all the time.

Hellion, who would you say is your strongest ally besides Fire?

Hellion: It depends on which areas those allies are needed in. For wisdom and guidance, I would turn to Lavrine or Kedem. If there's a battle ahead, I would turn to Gladiator and when it comes to the day-to-day running of the village, there is only Atlas that I would entrust that to.

For my final question, I have to ask...how much a part of you both was lost with Titan?

Fire: Titan was not just my bodyguard, but one of my most valued friends. His sacrifice for me that day...was just something that I...that we will never forget. Excuse me, but I can't talk about Titan without...
Hellion: Without crying. Titan was like a brother to me. Our story goes back to the moment of our rebirth as tigers. We both owe Titan so much and he will always remain in our hearts. His example is still very much in effect in our village and within all the clans.

Thank you for your time and your honest answers. Your stories are in the Chronicles of the Free People tales, Book 1, Fire at Dawn and Book 2, The Stormrider. Book 3, A New Dawning is being written for release soon and from what I understand, even though the trilogy ends, there will be more books.
